eight foot cactus Jesse and Mark starting playing guitar together while attending The Ohio State University. Their love for the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds style of acoustic guitar performance inspired them to start dabbling in duets. While they had both played in bands before, playing dueling acoustic guitars was a first for both of them. Jesse David Warnock, born in Portsmouth, Ohio. Rhythm Guitar, Vocals. Jesse started playing guitar in the fifth grade...more coming soon... Mark Alexander Nielsen, born in Boston, Massachusetts. Lead Guitar, Vocals. Mark grew up in Columbus, Ohio and started his musical career with the piano in the second grade. He gained a strong foundation in music theory from the first years of playing piano. During those early years, Mark mainly listened to his parents Beatles records and tapes, what was on the radio, and most memorably, Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming. Though his influences in his middle school years were a bit odd (Yanni, John Tesh, Enya, The Canadian Brass, Bill Watrose), he decided to try just about every instrument he could get his hands on. He ended up staying with low brass for the scholastic band and purchased a Bach 42BO trombone in which he still plays today. During this time he also bought his first 4-string bass guitar, Ibanez TR Bass (Fender Squire P-Bass equivalent). In Mark's early high school years, he traded in his Ibanez 4-string bass for an Ibanez SR406 6-string bass and started to work on scale runs and a little bit of funk and jazz bass. In his mid high school years the desire for improvement on the bass died off but the sounds of punk, pop-punk, and grunge rock inspired him to make another purchase. To purge teen angst and recreate the sounds of Bad Religion, Nirvana, Rancid, Greenday, Foo Fighters, blink-182, and New Found Glory, Mark purchased a Fender Standard Fat-Stratocaster electric guitar and a Fender DG-08 acoustic guitar. The electric guitar merely amounted to Mark learning power chords and punk riffs and was sold to Music-Go-Round in his late high school years for cash (though he will never forget his punk rock roots). During those late high school years was when he really started to take notice of the guitar sounds within the Dave Matthews Band. At the time it only amounted to learning a couple of riffs to attempt to impress whoever was around. One more attempt on the bass was made when Mark traded in his Ibanez 6-string for a Fender P-Bass. The P-Bass was fun, but was sold to afford future equipment to the bassist of MODENA VOX (http://www.modenavox.com/) later that year. In college, various roommates exposed Mark to more and more of his current influences including, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, solo Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Howie Day, and John Mayer to include the most noticeable ones. With all of these new found influences came new found inspiration. He polished up the Fender DG-08, reset a couple of frets, and stuck some fairly good strings on it and was ready to play till his fingers bled. In the midst of this he moved in with Jesse. Because of similar influences they started to play together. When they realized it was time to start playing out, Mark purchased the equipment he uses today...an SWR California Blonde amplifier and a Larrivee D-03E acoustic guitar. |
